A buckskin horse is a yellowish golden looking horse with a dark mane. Not to be mixed up with a palomino horse, which is yellow looking with a light mane. It is seen as a very attractive colour of a horse as it is quite unusual and striking looking. The below horse is our mascot Elton. He is a mix between quarter horse, arabian and stock horse. He is more of a cream buckskin horse as he is very light. You can checkout his instagram here. Acceptable colours for the buckskin registry Brown Buckskin A brown buckskin can sometimes be mistaken for a bay horse by the untrained eye. It is the darkest shade in the buckskin family, and the colour almost looks a bit dirty and sooty. Burnt Buckskin A burnt buckskin is slightly lighter than a brown buckskin. Their legs are darker than their body which is not the case for the brown buckskins. It can sometimes be difficult to determine if a colour is a burnt buckskin as it is often mistaken for other recognised horse colours. Standard Buckskin A standard buckskin has got a more 'burnt' yellow look than the cream buckskin. Also with dark mane, tails and legs. Golden Buckskin As its name suggests, this is a golden coated horse. It is slightly darker than the standard and cream buckskin and can sometimes look a bit bay to people. However it doesn't carry the red undertone that bays do which separates it from it. Smoky Black Also known as a black buckskin. This is the darkest of all buckskins and it has more redness than the lighter shades of buckskin. It is very similar to a dark roan horse. The mane tail and legs can be the same colour or sometimes a bit red-ish looking. Cream Buckskin This is a very pale cream like colour with dark legs and mane/tail as seen in the picture below.
Learn moreAgistment Agreement
Agistment agreement This is the agreement between a horse owner and the owner of the piece of land where they intend to keep their horse. This is a legally binding agreement that includes elements such as what will be fed to the horse, the pasture or cattle land used, the rates charged during a certain period of time, the profits accrued from owning such a property and other extra expenses that will be incurred during the animals stay at that land. The owner of the property who is commonly referred to as the bailee is responsible for looking after the animals that are entrusted to them. Any damages or injury that might occur on the animal as a result of minor accidents that show they could have been avoided all together if the bailee was keener will also be charged on the bailee. Examples of Agistment Agreements Agistment agreements are mainly found in two forms, the written type of agreements and the verbal type of agreements. This is a legally binding agreement that includes elements such as what will be fed to the horse, the pasture or cattle land used, the rates charged during a certain period of time, the profits accrued from owning such a property and other extra expenses that will be incurred during the animals stay at that land. The written forms are the most ideal since they can be used in a court of law as evidence. Their only disadvantage is that the bailee cannot claim lien on the horses as they do not have a valid reason or right in situations where the agreement has been written down including what happens if a payment is default. Where to Find Agistment Agreements online There are so many templates of agistment contracts that can be easily accessed online. The only thing that the two parties need to do is alter some of the information to suit their required needs to strike them out if they are not necessary in their agreement. There are numerous websites on the site engines that provide these templates at absolutely no price. Alternatively the parties can draft their own agistment contract from scratch. The department of ministry has also come up with sample agistment agreements that they consider be standard and individuals can easily access them from their website or in their offices. It is therefore impossible not to get hold of an agistment contract if you are in need of one. Alternatively you can have your lawyer draft one that is custom made.
Learn moreWhat Is Horse Agistment?
What is horse agistment? Finding a suitable accommodation for your horse is an essential task that every horse owner needs to thoroughly evaluate. If you own or want to own a horse the first thing that you need to consider is where you will keep it since it is not every individual who can afford to have a homestead or facility that is appropriate. There are two main methods through which horse owners can use to provide suitable lodging for their horses - spelling or agistment. Definition horse agistment Agistment can be defined as when another individual rather than the horse owner takes in the horse and takes care of it and the horse owner is supposed to pay a certain set amount. The amount paid by the horse owner should cater for the accommodation and other extra services that will be given to the horse such as feeding, washing and training. The horse will be kept at a certain area which will be selected by the horse owner known as a paddock or stall. There are two main types of paddocks available; the large shared paddocks or the smaller individual paddocks. In the large shared paddocks several horses are kept in one stall while in the individual paddock only a single horse stays there. The prices for the two types of paddocks vary. Both the private and the shared paddocks in agistment have access to constant flow of fresh water and areas that have shades to protect them when the sun is too hot. To keep the horses safe and secure the paddocks should have well established perimeter fences electric ones if possible are the safest. It is also the responsibility of the care givers at the agistment facility to ensure that the horses are thoroughly exercise and in case of a medical condition or situation the veterinarian is contacted immediately. The individual in charge of the facility where horses are kept in agistment is known as a bailee. The bailee is required to have accommodation facilities within the agistment facility from where they can be able to keep track of the horses 24/7. Sanitary facilities such as bathrooms should also be available within the facility. Them being on the property makes it easy to perform tasks such as the regular feeding and surveillance of the animals at all times. Some of the standard agistment facilities contain extra facilities such as outdoor arenas, indoor arenas, round yards, jumping areas, tack rooms, training courses and horse washes.
